On Being Thankful (with no strings attached)

Hello my sweet friends! So. I'm writing this on a Wednesday morning. I have summer classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and I have to be out the door by 6:50 am those days. Needless to say, I LOVE my Monday and Wednesday mornings, because I get to ease into the day.

As I sit here sipping my coffee at 7 am, enjoying the lazy snores of my pups (all while still in my PJs might I add) I am thankful. But I'm especially thankful BECAUSE I'm not rushing out the door to go to class.

That got me thinking - I should be thankful with no strings attached. I catch myself being thankful for things AFTER the fact rather than during. Or even being thankful for something once you realize that you don't have it anymore, whether that be something as significant a person in your life or as simple as sitting on the couch sipping coffee at 7 am.

A thankful heart is a powerful thing. This is me committing to being thankful. Thankful during and not just after. Thankful with no strings attached.

Here is a list of a few things that I am thankful for, no strings attached:
  • Eating dinner on the patio with my husband
  • Coffee dates with my Grandma
  • Spontaneous/creative dates
  • Puppy kisses from my boys
  • A fresh journal
I think it's important that we all take time DAILY to meditate on the things that we are thankful for - to appreciate what we have right now...before it's after the fact. What are some things that you are thankful for, no strings attached?

xo, Jess

  1. Things I am thankful for (no string attached):
Libraries full of stories (books, CDs, DVDs, magazine, etc.)
Phones that connect me to loved ones that keep me grounded
    Handlettering videos on Instagram
    Homemade ice cream sandwiches

Thank you for this prompt. I went to your blog this morning when I need to escape for a little bit. You brought me back to what matters.

    1. I also LOVE watching handlettering videos on Instagram :)

Oh and this comment totally made my day! This is what I missed so much about lifestyle blogging! Thank you!

  2. Things I am thankful for (no strings attached):

How excited my pup is when I get home, unconditionally.
Sipping coffee with my husband walking the pup in the mornings.
The innocent, excited hugs from the neighbor kids.
Visiting my mom at her work, especially when it's a surprise.

I love your insightful little posts, I usually remember after work to check them and they always brighten my day!

  3. I love this post! You're so right - we do tend to be thankful of things after it's over but rarely when things are happening. I try to take a few minutes every night to think about what happened that day and find at least one thing to be thankful for. Still thinking about it after the moment has passed but it is a great way to end the day, thinking on all the good that happened!

    xx, Caitlin

Seriously...every comment makes my day a little brighter!
