Smell the Roses!

Monday, oh Monday. This past week was...well let me just say I'm glad it's behind me. I haven't been using my time wisely this semester - when I'm supposed to be doing homework, I wind up on blogs or Pinterest...oops ;) So that means I end up sitting at home all the time attempting to do homework. Plus my free time isn't as enjoyable, because it's mixed in with my supposed to be "productive" time.

Starting today I'm following a schedule so that I can finish everything that I need to get done without procrastinating, so that I'm not always stuck in my apartment staring at a computer screen/textbook. Yay for taking the reigns and getting my social life back!

Anyway, on to one of my favorite parts of the week...Smell the Roses!
Want to know what I'm talking about? Read the ins & outs of Smell the Roses here.

Last week's task was to call someone that you don't see very often and catch up. I didn't get to call the person that I originally had in mind (our schedules are like night & day), but I did get a chance to have a phone conversation with a good friend that I don't see very often. I have to admit, it was a breath of fresh air compared to texting. I'm so used to sending a quick text and skimming through responses...no emotion/effort needed.

Christina from The Andrews Update put it very nicely in a comment that she left last week when I introduced this task, "I love this week's new task. Calling someone... in this world of technology that we live in it is SO easy to forget to pick up the phone. We already saw their facebook and twitter updates, so we think we know what is going on with them and sending a text is easier anyways. Thanks for the reminder that a phone call IS worth the extra time."

Well said, Christina...that was exactly the reason why I chose this task :) I really hope you guys got a few extra minutes last week to enjoy catching up with someone through a phone call! If you did, let me know by grabbing a button & linking up to this post sometime this week!

This week's task is something that I really need to do. I feel like every day zips by, and I'm so busy going through the motions of trying to get everything done in such a short amount of time, that I forget to appreciate who I am as a person. I'm not a robot, and it's OKAY if my daily "to-do" list(s) don't always get completed (did I just say that...?!)

This week's task:
Write a list of 5 things that you love about yourself.

Sounds simple, but I have a feeling that this one is going to be easier said than done for some of us. But that's okay! So take some time for yourself (yes, go ahead and place your "to-do" list on the back burner for a night) and head to your favorite place, whether that be a park, Starbucks, or even your bedroom, and write out a list of the 5 things that you love the most about yourself. Try not to ask anyone for help - these are things that you love about you :) I can't wait to come back next week and see what you guys have written!

Don't forget to link up with a post that talks about your phone call from last week!
Next week, we'll link up with our 5 favorite things about ourselves :)
And as always, have a wonderful Monday, lovelies!

PS: I Changed my Twitter name to @lovelyjesscuh - hoping this makes it a bit easier for bloggers to know who I am...@LovelyLittleThings was too long :( sad day!

  1. So easy to do..but at the same time so hard! What a great way to get us to remember the things we should be proud of! :)

  4. Such a cute idea! This is somehow my first week seeing it. I will try to do both things this week! There are a ton of people that I could use a phone call with that I've just completely lost touch with!

  6. I really enjoyed last week's task! It was great to laugh and chat with someone that I see maybe once a year.

This week's task is really hitting home with something I'm going through right now. Although, to sit and think about myself is definitely easier said than done, I know it's one thing I need for myself.

It's hard to sit and think about yourself without feeling selfish sometimes. But I've found that at some points in life, you have to think about what is best for you, and you do have to put yourself first.

Thanks for thinking of this great idea!

  7. I know about Twitter I changed my name too and Grin and Barrett was too long, so I had to improvise. I love what you said about being busy, this girl right here knows plenty about that! I hope this week is refreshing for you and you get everything accomplished!

    Happy Monday!

  8. I love your idea of "Smell the Roses"! I didn't catch up with any friends this week (unless talking to my SIL for the first time in a long time counts? Catching up with her really was a highlight of my week!) so I can't really link up on this one but I love next week's topic. I'm going to brainstorm on this one - finding one's faults is MUCH easier than finding things we love about ourselves. (Especially for me - I don't tend to think about what I love, I tend to focus on things I could improve on. Am I the only one?) Anyway, looking forward to linking up next week!
